Is it the news or the reporter?

I like to observe my father's reactions to the daily news and some days he is more wound up than others. For example, a couple of Fridays ago my father was really wound up and he made a comment that Rush was really on it today, whatever that means. I made a comment to him saying that whenever Rush is wound up, he gets really wound up, my father replied that it was not Rush that winds him up that it is the news that is reported that winds him up. I honestly think that it is a little bit of both. So my question is is it the reporter that gets the masses "stoked" or is it the news presented that gets them "stoked?"

I can definetly see how Rush Limbaugh can get anyone wound up! If you take a gander at his site, you will see bright colors, parodies of politicians, a lot of flash player being used. The colors are vibrant and just by looking at them it could raise your blood pressure. Needless to say, if it is not Rush stoking the fire it would be another news reporter doing it. Their job is to make us question what is going on, I believe that Rush's goal is to inform Americans yet to instill power into the masses, we have the right to choose how our government is run and just like Glenn Beck they want us to hold the government responsible for their actions, as any due dilligent citizen should do!

  1. I think the only reason people get riled up is when a specific issue affects them....although I notice that conservatives get riled up on anything even if the issue has no bearing on their personal life. People, I guess feel like somethings threaten their beliefs, and they react to it.

It's funny that you actually believe that Glen Beck want us to hold government accountable....I can't recollect how he held the Bush administration accountable to anything, the guy is ideologically motivated, he cares less about the government except for when the opposing party is in government. That is what you call an hypocrite.

  2. I think that it is the speaker who gets people "wound up". This is usually when people have a strong opinion on the topic. Either the speaker and listener have clashing opinions or the listener has no opinion but the speaker has a stong opinion and influences the listener. Either way stron emotions are involved. People who don't care either way don't get "wound up".
